The 75th Anniversary celebration of GAP (April 7-9, 2022) brought together GAP members from across the country at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich , Connecticut for the first in person meeting in 2 years due to the pandemic that shut down our country and the world. It was a remarkable meeting in a new venue as the Westchester Hotel in White Plains where we had met for many years was a casualty of the pandemic. The meeting was “hybrid” with many members attending virtually.
We celebrated in person with receptions, music, dinner and dancing. The highlight of the meeting was the Friday night plenary “Dear Abby and GAP: A 50+ Year Collaboration and Partnership” that featured Jeanne Phillips (Dear Abby) and three recent GAP reports that utilized the Dear Abby column which reaches millions of readers nationwide to study the interface of psychiatry and the public. The three committees were Psychiatry and Religion, LGBTQ, and The Community. Dear Abby has collaborated with GAP from the 1950s with Pauline Phillips (Dear Abby) and now her daughter. It has been a most productive relationship.
