ABOUT OUR COMMITTEE
The Committee on the Family of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry Committee was initiated in 1951 by John P. Spiegel,Sidney Berman, Wilfred Bloomberg, George S. Stevenson, Jack Weinberg After a hiatus of 3 plus years, with the blessings and guidance of Ellen Berman, Alison Heru, John Sargent, Anthony Rostein, Ira Glick, Douglas Kramer , John Rolland and GAP leaders likes President Sumner , Drescher, Gross GAP’S Family committee was revived with Rama Rao Gogineni, Rajesh Mehta, Dhanalaksmi Ramasamy, Narpinder Kaur Malhi, William Sonis, Howard Dichter, Erin Belfort as its members. Special Thanks to Frances Bell Roton’s tremendous assistance and help
Some of goals and tasks of Family committee include:
Help promote the identification, treatment, and prevention of mental health issues of adults, children, adolescents in collaboration with other professional organizations and related programs.
Promote scholarship in providing family oriented care, including family support, psychoeducation, family consultation and, family therapy..
Work with other GAP committees to produce, promote family, systems issues of mutual interest.
Explore topics of mutual interest with APA, AACAP, AASP, AFP and other sister organizations to produce, promote issues of mutual interest
Work on Strengthening training in family oriented care in medical schools, residency and fellowship programs.
Raise awareness of family issues as part of all psychiatric treatment settings
